Foundations of Community Organizing
"Foundations" is an introduction to the leadership practices and principles of community organizing. The training is based on 70+ years of experience within the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) model that has engaged people in achieving change on issues that matter to them.
This training will cover:
- A introduction to the Greater Edmonton Alliance and its organizing tradition
- A deep dive into relational leadership styles
- Listening to a community for actions: relational and house meetings
- The organizing cycle - listening, discerning, acting, and reflection
- Power - what it is, how we build it, and how we learn to exercise "power with" rather than "power over"
The training will be run by the GEA's organizers along with other organizers from across the IAF network. We will offer snacks for breakfast, as well as a dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday.
Accessibility: We will host the training in the lower hall at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Strathcona. The hall is wheelchair accessible by a lift and has accessible washrooms on that level.
The training runs:
Friday, March 27, 6:00PM-9:00PM
Saturday, March 28, 9:30AM-4:00PM
Registration Deadline is March 25th.
