Senior Care

GEA was integral in the development of the Edmonton Seniors Home Supports Program, designed to enable seniors to remain in their homes safely for as long as possible.

The program, now in its eight year in 2023, is the result of 2 – 3 years of extensive dialogue with hundreds of seniors from all around Edmonton.

It meets the real needs of seniors in their homes today: the soft supports such as yard help, snow removal, housekeeping, and home repair and maintenance, among other services.

GEA was not the only group to identify these needs. In parallel work, the Federation des Ainés Franco-Albertains, The Greater Edmonton Health Advisory Council, The Alberta Caregivers’ Association and the Edmonton Seniors Co-ordinating Council also identified these needs.

The Seniors Co-ordinating Council established the Home Supports Program, and GEA gave its full support.

This program is available to all seniors, regardless of income status.
